L.G.Pinkston High School Alumni Association of Dallas, Texas

2009
The Pinkston High School Alumni Association was established as a nonprofit organization with two purposes: to serve the needs of the alumni and of the students of the present day. It strives to create a spirit of unity between the alumni and the current student body by sponsoring special activities and by raising funds for specific improvements. 

It all started with a conversation about the need of an Alumni Association during the planning stages of the 45th All Class Reunion. Stacey Traylor McIntee, Carol Conard Harrington, Mona Shepherd and Vanessa Lee Terry decided to move forward with establishing the Association. Stacey Traylor McIntee, Carol Conard Harrington, Mona Shepherd and Vanessa Lee Terry are the Founders of the L.G. Pinkston High School Alumni Association of Dallas, Texas. The four also became the Bylaws Committee but wanted input from officers that were going to be elected to serve as 2009-2011LGPAADT Officers.  

George Castro and the All Class Reunion Committee Members agreed to host voting of the LGP Alumni Association Officers during the 45th LGP All Class Reunion on Saturday, November 9, 2009.  Officers were announced at the All Class Reunion. Bylaws for the LGP Alumni Association were drafted and finalized by the 2009-2011 LGPAADT Officers below.

The Treasurer and Parliamentarian were voted on by the 2009-2011 Officers on Monday, November 16, 2009. 

The process of filing as a non-profit name was first and second motion – all presented agreed. The legal application was submitted and approved by the State of Texas.  

2010 – March 2011 

ASSUMED NAME RECORDS

CERTIFICATE OF OWNERSHIP FOR UNICORPORATED BUSINESS OR PROFESSION 

Carol Conard Harrington (1975) and Vanessa Lee Terry (1976) filed the name as the L.G. Pinkston High School Association of Dallas, Texas. Carol Conard Harrington and Vanessa Lee Terry opened a Checking Account with the Neighborhood Credit Union under the name of L.G. Pinkston High School Alumni Association of Dallas, Texas. A Post Office Box was opened at the Post Office located at I-30 and Sylvan. 

The first LGP Alumni Association meeting was held on Monday, November 16, 2009 at the home of Carol Conard Harrington. First order of the meeting was to elect a Treasurer and Parliamentarian.  

Open Position was: Treasurer
Election for Treasurer: Jenell Gregg Bluitt (‘75), nominated by Carol Harrington. By a show of hands Jenell Greeg Bluitt was voted in as Treasurer. A motion was made by Vanessa Lee-Terry to vote. Second motion made by Carol Harrington.

Appointment was then accepted by George Castro, President. 

Open Position: Parliamentarian
Election for Parliamentarian: Roderick Bivins, Class of 2000 was nominated by Ramona Shepherd. Majority of votes for Parliamentarian went to Roderick Bivins. Motion was made by Vanessa Lee Terry, second motion made by Ramonia Shepherd. Appointment was then accepted by George Castro, President.  

The first Membership Applications were distributed in March of 2010, and the response was very encouraging.  The membership dues were set at $20.00. Our first Membership Drive was on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at L.G. Pinkston High School. An introductory fee of $20.00 was from March 1, 2010 to June 30, 2010. Our physical year is from July 1 to June 30.  

A motion was made to approve Debra Davis as the Historian.  Second was made and carried. 

LGPAADT first event was serving lunch to the 2010 Senior Class. The Senior Luncheon was held in the Cafeteria of L.G. Pinkston High School on Saturday, May 15, 2010. 

School activities/events supported by the LGP Alumni Association of Dallas, Texas were.
Prom dresses were donated by Alumni, White Shirts and Black Ties were donated by Alumni and non LGP Alumni for Senior Awards Day. Athletic Banquet – donated a cake. Olive Garden and the Hayden Family sponsored the food. The Athletic Banquet was held in the newly remodeled Lounge of L.G. Pinkston High School. 

The first Officers and Members meeting was held on July 10, 2010 at the West Dallas Library. Ideas/suggestions for future events, educational programs, and volunteers were on the agenda.  

The very first event was a Memberhip Drive that was held as part of Pinkston In the Park along with a Membership Drive. Combining the two was suggested by Stacey Traylor McIntee. This would be an opportunity to give back to the members and recruit new members.  

Pinkston in the park was held at the Nash/Davis Recreation Center – formerly North Hampton Park. Pinkston in the Park and the Membership Drive was a great success. FREE Hot Dogs, chips, soft drinks were offered.  People were asked to bring their lawn chairs, tables, blankets, food. A Spade and Dominions tournament took place. Gift cards were donated by LGPAADT Officers and Members of the Association. Non LGP Participants were from Hillcrest HS, W.T. White HS, Sunset HS, South Oak Cliff HS, North Dallas, Adamson HS, and Roosevelt HS. Larry Bowie, Class of 1975 was the Title Sponsor of Pinkston in the Park. There were others that made contributions/donated food, beverages, and gifts.  

LGPAADT Officers voted to have Pinkston in the Park be an annual event held in July or August. This would be an opportunity to give back to its members, community, and recruit new members and membership renewals.  

Homecoming Parade was hosted by the L.G. Pinkston High School Alumni Association of Dallas, Texas. The official paperwork was submitted to the City of Dallas Special Events Department for a permit. The permit was approved 45 days prior to the Parade. 

Parade Route:
Started in front of L.G. Pinkston going East on Dennison to Vilbig. North on Vilbig to Bickers, West on Bickers to Goldman, South on Goldman back to the parking lot of L.G. Pinkston High School. Tailgate party took place on the parking lot of L.G. Pinkston High School.  

The Homecoming Parade will be coordinated with the Staff at L.G. Pinkston High School, and hosted by the L.G. Pinkston High School Alumni Association of Dallas, Texas. 

October 2010 – The Association’s first gift to the school was a flag. The flag was donated to the school cheerleaders. Mona Shepherd coordinated the purchase and donation to the school – cheerleader sponsor.  

Promotional item of footballs were donated by the LGP HS Alumni Association of Dallas, Texas. LGPAADT was printed on the football. The cheerleaders threw the footballs into the stands. 

The LGP High School Alumni Association of Dallas, Texas was very instrumental is honoring the First Basketball Players of L.G. Pinkston High School. The Financial Secretary Ramonia Shepherd coordinated the participation of the alumni, school staff and coaches. 

A plaque was presented to the First Basketball Players of L.G. Pinkston High School during half time by Mona Shepherd and Rickey Spillman. 

Pinkston’s Varsity Basketball Team was playing Carter High School. The Head Basketball Coach for Carter High School was honored by the LGP Alumni Association of Dallas, Texas as one of the First Basketball Players at Pinkston. 

April 2011 – June 2011 

2009-2011 LGPAADT Officers prepared for the upcoming election of the 2011-2013 LGPAADT Officers and Chairs. Candidates were announced during the month of May. Applications were distributed by email and regular mail.  

2009-2011 Officers voted on forming Committees. This would give members an opportunity to get involved in all areas of the Association. This would also relief some of the duties from the Executive Board.  

Developing/designing of the LGP Alumni Web Site was under construction April thru May. Members Only were able to vote online for their candidate at www.lgpalumni.org 

The Web Site was designed by the LGPAADT Recording Secretary Vanessa Lee Terry (LGP 1976), and Kristi Eaken – not a graduate of LGP. The web site will be managed and maintained the Recording Secretary, appointed Officer and/or an active member of the Association. 

Results were viewed during a meeting by all that were present. Vanessa Lee Terry provided viewing of the election with the use of a laptop. All present were able to see the actually number of votes for each candidate. The results also showed whether not an email address was an active member, email address voted more than once. 
 

The web site will be managed and maintained the Recording Secretary with assistance from an LGPAADT Officer, and/or an active member of the Association.

August – LGPAADT was asked by the Director of the Nash Dash Recreation Center to assist with recruiting volunteers to tutor students after school at the center. 

August 20 – Membership Drive and Pinkston in the Park was held at Nash Davis Recreation Center. Classes came out representing their class with their class banner, grills, tables, board, card games, and dominions.  

The LGP Coaches and Staff put the alumni to a challenge of playing softball, and they delivered (score 15 – 8). Although, the alumni did not win the game – the alumni players showed them they still have it going on. This was the first in the History of LGPAADT. Hopefully, this will continue to be apart of PIP throughout the years of LGPAADT.  – There Is No Alumni like LGP Alumni – thank you Alumni Players for representing the Association, Alumni Members and All LGP Alumnus.   

The real progress of the L.G. Pinkston High School Alumni Association of Dallas, Texas is traced not in the bricks of LGP nor in equipment, but rather in the classrooms where success of its graduates were put on a path to higher branches of learning, or who are contributing to the good of L.G. Pinkston High School.

Preserve and promote the LGP traditions, purposes, growth and Alumni, and keep alive the SPIRIT of affection and reverence for our alma mater.
